“ will be holding dual enrollment information sessions for 9th and 10th-grade students this March. Information sessions are for 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students (and/or families new to the process), but any grade level can attend. 

 

Sessions will be offered at the following dates/次:

Students who wish to begin their collegiate careers in high school have the ability to take dual enrollment courses as part of their individual pathways. Wytheville Community College greatly welcomes students who meet college-level requirements that support individual opportunities for advancement and rigor within the higher education realm.

在 2022-23 school year,在 900 dual enrollment students completed college credit 在 300 unique offerings.

Dual enrollment courses at each school are taught by credentialed high-school faculty. Each high-school faculty member must go through a formal credentialing process. The process is reviewed and certified by “ prior to dual enrollment courses being offered to any qualifying student.

学费 charges, if applicable, are paid to the individual school. These charges are a fraction of the normal tuition/fee costs. Course calendars reflect each individual school system calendar, while the 双录取 Coordinator provides specific add, 下降, and withdrawal dates to all students, 辅导员, and administrators at the beginning of each semester. Dual enrollment students who take courses taught by a “ instructor during any semester will pay the normal tuition/fee costs. 学费/fee costs for the current school year. In addition to tuition/fee costs, students must obtain a principal permission letter for these independent “ courses.  Concurrent Awards

As part of 众议院第1184号法案, students can now work towards concurrent awards as part of their high-school diploma track. “ offers concurrent pathways for the General Education Certificate (33 credits), the Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in General Studies (61 credits), and the Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in Science (61 credits).

More information on these pathways can be found under the Concurrent Awards link on the left-hand side of this p年龄. It is important that students considering these concurrent awards meet with the 双录取 Coordinator during their freshman and/or sophomore years to verify that these choices work towards individual pathways and educational goals before beginning any program.

In order for students to receive dual enrollment consideration, an active Virginia Community College System application must be completed. The online application takes about 10-15 minutes for completion and can be accessed here.

On the initial application p年龄, students must enter a temporary username and password to gain access into the application st年龄. Following completion of the application, students will receive a seven-digit student ID number (also known as an EmplID), along with their My.“ username (usually, the individual student’s initials and a random number) and a temporary password (a randomly generated case-sensitive set of letters, 数字, and/or characters).

注意: If students have already activated an application, the application p年龄 will stop after the first p年龄 – indicating that an active application is already in use. If this happens, please contact the 双录取 Coordinator regarding ID and password retrieval.

It is highly advised that students log into their My.“  account upon application completion, especially since the temporary password is only good for 30 days. The 双录取 Coordinator can also help reset any expired passwords. 另外, students need to become familiar with their My.“ account as part of dual enrollment – including Canvas us年龄, 研究选择, 电子邮件, Office 365 downloads, 还有更多.

Following application completion, students are then ready to take applicable placement tests in both English and Mathematics. 另外, students can receive exemption in one or both examinations depending on 行为, P坐, 坐, 和/或Alg. I SOL结果. Exemptions largely depend on the dual enrollment courses being taken through either the school and/or independently with “.

Criteria for Participation in 双录取

私人, 公共, and 首页。school juniors and seniors who meet each of the following criteria may register in college-level credit-bearing courses:  

  1. The student submits an Application for Admission.
     
  2. The student is a rising public or private high school junior or senior, or homeschool student studying at the high school junior or senior level.
    1. The high school student has permission of the principal 或被任命者, and the parent.
    2.  The homeschool student has permission of the parent. 
       

  3. The student demonstrates readiness for each college-level credit-bearing course in which they want to enroll. High school and homeschool students are not eligible to enroll in developmental or direct placement co-requisite English and Math courses.  In demonstrating readiness, a student must meet one of the criteria established for each type of course in which they want to be registered:

     *Cumulative GPA may be weighted or unweighted and may be self-reported.
    **A transfer course is any course that a college offers and will transcript in fulfillment of the requirements for a Degree or Certificate that is designed to transfer (e.g.， aa, as, aa&S, AFA, Uniform Certificate of General Studies).
    ***A career and technical course is any course that the college offers and will transcript in fulfillment of the requirements for degrees and certificates that are not designed for transfer (e.g., AAS, Certificate, Career Studies Certificates).
     

  4. In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria above, a dual enrollment student must meet all course pre/corequisites as listed in the VCCS Master Course File and established by the college at which the student is enrolled in the course.

    Dual enrollment is restricted to rising high school juniors and seniors and home school students studying at the high school junior or senior levels. Admitting high school or home school students below the junior or senior level is considered exceptional.  The college-ready status of each prospective student below the junior or senior high school level shall be assessed on a case-by-case basis.  Such students must meet the above eligibility criteria and any other criteria as may be established by the college for participation of students below the junior or senior level in dual enrollment.  Colleges shall have criteria and procedures for the case-by-case assessment of such students.  Formal approval by the college president, 或被任命者, is required for applicants who are below the junior or senior high school level to participate in dual enrollment.

(for homeschool and secondary school students)

 Each school division will have personalized forms featuring specific course offerings on hand as you return for Open Houses in lieu of the upcoming school year. However, students and families can download a blank copy here. Please note that one completed permission form is good for fall, 春天, and summer semesters (if applicable). All courses can be included on one form.

Completed parent/guardian permission forms are required for course enrollment. The Coordinator of 双录取 will not enroll a student who lacks a completed permission form. 形式 must be completed and returned to the individual school within the add/下降 period, or students will not be added. This includes signatures from both the student and one parent/guardian.

 首页。schooled students will need to return a completed form to the Coordinator of 双录取. 另外, a letter of approval from the school division or local school board showing approval of respective homeschool instruction is required.

Wytheville Community College welcomes all homeschooled students who wish to continue their educational goals through college coursework while earning their respective diplomas. 首页。schooled students must complete the regular application process and meet placement qualifications.

In addition to the aforementioned items, a letter designating homeschooled status from the local county/city school board must be received by the 双录取 Coordinator prior to course enrollment.

Dual enrollment students wishing to complete these credentials must complete a signed declaration form within their guidance office. This form is then shared with the 双录取 Coordinator, who will track respective progress each semester.

For any coursework being completed inside the school, the guidance counselor and/or director will schedule classes. For any specific “ coursework relating to either the certificate or degree, the 双录取 Coordinator will schedule classes.

Counselors should submit forms outlining dual enrollment course offerings (including b锁, 次, and number of offerings) to the Coordinator of 双录取 by Apr. 15 (fall) and Nov. 15(春季).

 

Incomplete Grade Form

Instructors with students qualifying for an incomplete should complete this form and return to the Coordinator of 双录取 prior to the end of each semester. More information on “’s incomplete grade policy.

 

Intent to Earn an Associate Degree and/or a Certificate of General Education

Students wishing to declare for either the associate degree and/or the General Education Certificate must complete this form with a counselor. Counselors should return this to the Coordinator of 双录取. Students should declare during the latter part of their sophomore year in order to meet proper pathway progression.

This form is required for students who take courses with a “ instructor and not through dual enrollment means. The principal of each school must approve of this course before the Coordinator of 双录取 takes this form to the College President for final review/decision.

This form is for any new courses and/or any new dual enrollment instructors entering the credentialing process. The Coordinator of 双录取 will notify schools and school systems on additional items needed for credentialing reviews.
